CouchDB Jira project

Hi,

I've noticed CouchDB doesn't have an Apache Jira project yet to fill issues
under, it usually helps through the migration to the incubator as people can
see what's left and eventually give you a hand. If you want I can setup the
project for you, it's fairly quick.

Cheers,
Matthieu

Just created them. Jira likes to keep modules in alphabetic order so the
simple to complex ordering can't be kept.

Cheers,
Matthieu

Okay, I think "System Integration" is too fluffy, how about:

   * Build System
   * Infrastructure
   * Database Core
   * HTTP Interface
   * JavaScript View Server
   * Administration Console
   * Full-Text Search
   * Test Suite
   * Documentation

Infrastructure being anything part of the install which holds the various bits
together, like executables, startup scripts and other miscellania.

Also, to clarify a question Chris asked me on IRC, I reorganised the list in
order of simple to complex as you progress through the system.

I would make the following changes:

   * Build System
   * System Integration
   * Database Core
   * HTTP Interface
   * JavaScript View Server
   * Administration Console
   * Full-Text Search
   * Test Suite
   * Documentation

Note that William Beh and Dirk Schalge slipped onto the proposal as
initial committers by accident; they aren't actually involved anymore,
and their contributions are no longer in the codebase since the shift
from XML/Fabric to JSON/JS. So no accounts are needed for them.

Okay, here's my proposal for a component list (in alphabetical order):

  * Build system
  * Database core
  * Documentation
  * Full-text search
  * HTTP interface
  * Javascript view server
  * Test suite
  * Web administration interface

Thoughts?

For releases, can we list pre-incubation versions? If so, I'd add
"0.7.2" for issues with the last release.

Done.

Yep, that's actually what most people end up doing.

Can you please add the following versions to the COUCHDB JIRA instance
so that we can use them for planning:

  * 0.8
  * 0.8.1
  * 0.9
  * 1.0

If it's okay to add our last release outside of Apache, "0.7.2" would
also be helpful.

Is it common to have a release representing the current trunk (for
"affects version")? Or what is best practice for that?

Thanks,

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/COUCHDB

I've setup Ted as the project lead for now (the lead role actually doesn't
make much sense for Apache projects but Jira requires it). Most committers
listed in the wiki proposal should be able to assign issues to themselves
except the ones who don't have a Jira account yet:

William Beh
Damien Katz
Jan Lehnardt
Dirk Schalge

Let me know when you have an account (just go to
https://issues.apache.org/jira and register) and I'll add you in the CouchDB
developers group. All mentors should be able to reassign people to this
group.and administer the project.

Also if there's a list of components and release names you'd like to have
setup let me know.

Enjoy,
Matthieu

This would be great, thanks!

Yeah, that'd be nice!
