FYI: nunames wants to do 8-bit-URL:s

Bill Semich, CEO of nunames.nu (holder of the Niue top-domain)
is now taking action to the fact that the company is selling
most of their domains in Sweden.

"Nu" is Swedish for "now" and since the .se top-level domain-name is
tied down by heavy restrictions of registered firms and companies, the
.nu-domain is a tempting alternative.

Bill Semich has recently visited Sweden and while here, he announced
that nunames are planning to let Swedish users and domainregistrants use
the Swedish umlaut letters Å, Ä and Ö in their domainnames.

No techical information about how this is going to work world wide
(which it's hard to present, as it will not work ;-) was announced.

- "It will only work for Swedish people who surf, but the technology
works", he said.

(Original story; Swedish only, sorry)

My personal opinion is of course that this is only to get the most of
the top-domain, and that it won't happen in a lucky way.

There are FYI, more illegal URL-persons out there:

People within IETF that I've spoke to don't take this serios though,
which is a relief.
