Validation Messages

Hi, I had a question about validating with a schema.  I am used to error 
messages like:

Attribute "city" is required and must be specified for element type 
"address".

I am able to caputure and parse these error's because they describe the 
element or attribute they are attached to.

Now I am trying to use datatypes and schema validation.  The error's I am 
getting don't explain where the error was:

Datatype error: 5633000000 is out of bounds:[ 1 <= X  < 999999999 ]..

Is there any way to figure out which attribute or element had the error?  
What about adding more descriptive messages.  Is this something that can be 
done?  Or are these messages part of some standard?
