I've been unable to confirm this bug.

OS: Win 8 Pro
OfficeVersion: 3.4.1 
Build: 9593
Dual Boot Machine. Win8 Installed on HD Partition. 
Windows 8 like new, no extra software. 

I typed a few random words that exceeded the custom character limit and saved
the document. After trying to type the words again, the auto-correct kicked in
for the custom words. Months and days of the week also worked as normal.

I checked the word list afterwards through Tools, and I found the words that
were being auto-completed accurately listed there. 

Do you have any other tips or procedures to help me try and replicate this bug?
