Possible solution is to provide optional configuration in the car plugin that maps a dependency artifact to the Geronimo import type. This allows the normal maven dependency resolution/ordering mechanism to be used... and allows for a cleaner method to augment the dependency with some extra information.
Unless... there is a better way to annotate a dependency with custom elements.. ?
