J2 Parent Menus
To All:
I know there was some discussion on this list some time ago regarding the
inability to reference parent menus (nodes) within layout templates (in J2).
I believe the reason given by the developer was that it wouldn't be
performant or efficient to do so. However ... I'm of the belief that the
ability to reference ALL menus (nodes) from within any page/subpage within a
layout is required. Just think about a simple dropdown navigation web site
with multiple submenus. When a user navigates to a submenu ... is it really
user-friendly to make all the parent menus "unavailable" from the newly
rendered page? Effectively, if the entire node-tree of menus is not
available from every page ... then static submenuing systems are impossible
(or at best very difficult) to implement in J2. So my primary question is
... has a solution been implemented or perhaps being worked on for this
particular little "feature" :-) ?

Randy,
thx for the response. I'll try and provide constructive (read: pestering)
feedback as the project progresses / recesses :-). Thx again.

Frank,
Funny you should write about this. I am actually writing up a document for
the Portal Navigations Component now and am trying to have it into review
this week.
I have included these concerns in the requirements for a revised menus
implementation.
Sorry this has taken longer than any of us would like, but the issue is
somewhat complex and has had plenty of discussion over the life of the J2
project. See JIRA issue JS2-69. Of course, it has been assigned to your
truely and my day job has been pounding me as of late.
Thanks for the input. Feel free to pester me more if you do not see come
concrete progress on this and related issues this week!
