Problem buidling swig python bindings

It looks like the make file issues a -DLINUX=2 option when buidling the 
python bindings with SWIG.  For some reason libtool doesn't recognize this. 
Tried using -D_LINUX=2 becuase that look like the rest of the CPPFLAGS, but 
I'm not a makefile guru ... it didn't work :(

Any ideas or has anyone else been able to libtools  to make the python 
bindings w/ the option -D_LINUX=2?
