svn:externals ? and exclude ?

Hi,

I am looking at using the svn:externals property.  It
almost works like the Perforce mappings.  Only thing
I'm missing is the ability to exclude a sub directory.
 I'm looking for something like the following.

$ svn propget
file:///path/to/repos/application/trunk/libs
svn:externals
libedit file:///path/to/repos/libedit/trunk
libnetwork file:///path/to/repos/libnetwork/trunk
-libnetwork
file:///path/to/repos/libnetwork/trunk/libnetwork/do_not_checkout_this_dir


OR some way to express that I don't want to checkout
some subset of the libnetowrk module.  Why... Perhaps
it's a huge module and my work can be done by only
working on part of it.  Just to head off the
comments... Yes there are reasons not to do this...
but, if I was to, any ideas on howto.

I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that the svn:externals
property is an all or nothing affair. You either get everything or
nothing. There is no cherry picking.
