Adding Tapestry-Cayenne module?

Hi,

As I'm sure some of you are aware, Robert Zeigler and I have been
working on a Tapestry5-Cayenne integration module, much like the
Hibernate one. The project can be found at:

http://code.google.com/p/tapestry5-cayenne/

I've purposefully structured it such that integration into ASF
umbrella should require minimal effort. There have been requests for
this to be added to either the Cayenne or Tapestry projects proper.
It seems that Tapestry would make the best home.

I know that Tapestry360 is coming out shortly, but I think the desire
is for it to be an officially sanctioned module. I'd like to start a
discussion on adding this module to the T5 codebase and raise a vote
with the PMC if the general consensus is that it should be added. The
project could be added as either a subproject to the Tapestry space or
simply added as another module at the Tapestry top level.

Please let me know what you think.

Been busy today!

I've done some research and I have no problems if you want to start a
vote for Robert. That's how things get done ... just step up to the
bat and start swinging!

I'm willing to sign up for patches and fixes on this. I don't have
any documentation with Apache, but I can submit patches to Kevin or
Robert. I am still new to this code, but I have some personal
investment in it.

Christian.

Not really seeing any objections, but not an outpouring of support
either, I'd like to raise the vote on this. Howard, would you rather
see this as a incubated subproject or just treat the code as a
contribution and add in as a new module. Robert and I are thus far
the only contributors and both have ICLAs on file, so neither should
be a problem.

I've been active with Cayenne for the past several years. I realize
at times that I've gone off the grid, so to speak. Alas, my work
situation doesn't allow me to work on either Cayenne or Tapestry
during work hours, so everything I do is in spare time. I've recently
been able to clear up my schedule and am looking to remain more active
with both projects. I can't say that I won't ever run into a time
period where I won't be able to make contributions, but I'm pretty
committed to both projects.

I think the larger issue, if you will, is that it would be nice if
Robert were able to commit directly to the codebase. That would
require a vote on committer status by the PMC if the project is to be
brought directly up to the top-level Tapestry codebase. I think if it
were a subproject that he could be given permissions independently of
the main codebase. Having said that, Robert has long been active in
the Tapestry community and I wouldn't expect there to be much
objection to his being a committer.

If there are any other concerns, please let me know.

My concern is about maintaining the code; there's been a pattern in
the past (Tapestry 3 and 4) of people "dumping" code and
dissappearing. I just want to know that there's a commitment to keep
the code operational, documented and tested.

I've been curios about Cayenne and have been disappointed by Hibernate

Kevin... Thank you. I was just trying to decide on a persistence
implementation to use, and was thinking about Cayenne again. This
will help.

Christian.
