Re: svn commit: r1328518 - /ofbiz/branches/release11.04/framework/base/config/test-containers.xml

Posted by Scott Gray <sc...@hotwaxmedia.com>.
I haven't been following all these strange jenkins threads but I have two points:
1. Don't be so aggressive, it'll get you nowhere and is annoying to read.
2. This is a CONFIGURATION file, they exist so that if the provided setup doesn't suit your needs YOU CAN CHANGE IT.

You simply don't change default settings within a release branch, it removes the stability that one should reasonably expect from a release. But for god's sake, these are configuration files, if it doesn't suit then change them to to your heart's content in your downloaded copy.

Regards
Scott

Adam explained why, see his comment in the other thread

We did in trunk, people which are using release can do that in a snap if they need it.
I don't see any reasons to arg here and go agains the rule: *if it's not broken don't fix it*

This is Adam, not me. I must say the way Adam works (svn commit bursts) is not perfect.
That's the problem with Git users. See other threads in ASF as well...

That was me. As is said this (and other moot cases) can be discussed with the community.
If we find a consensus I'm personnaly not against it. This has already been done in the past...

Re: svn commit: r1328518 - /ofbiz/branches/release11.04/framework/base/config/test-containers.xml

Posted by Pierre Smits <pi...@gmail.com>.
Maybe loss of common sense and growth of rigidness of convictions gets in
your way. I don't know....

As one wants to have the test ports stay the same as production ports, so
that a specific group of end-users (namely developers and testers) can NOT
do testing in a CI way. Merely because it's a release. Because the new port
numbers might be in use.... And the old port numbers (read production port
numbers) are expected to be not?

And saying: I wont deliver to JIRA, because that is NOT my way. So the
community can't test before code gets into the stream. Even when it is
asked for by the community....

I could call that being stupid... It's surely not helping the product and
this community along.

As is stated in ASF regulations and guidelines AND established in other
threads on this ML: End users should not have access development code or
test functionality in releases. For that there are other means (read SVN).
But hey, developers and testers are end users too. So treating all in the
same manner might be acceptible, when you're not thinking things through.

Or as another stated: having a fix for missing help screens is not bug
fixing, but improving the release (to paraphrase) and is therefore not
going to be implemented in a release.

Maybe you should ask yourself why you got involved in this project, this
community and why you were asked to join either the PMC or the group of
committers and whether you are still adhering to those principles or
guidelines. From the outside (meaning not being a PMC or a committer, but
being part of this community) it often seems like your not.

If you still feel you are then stay in touch with the community. If not,
please state so and .....

Regards,

Pierre
