python binding issues

I'm having some problems getting the python bindings working.

i've got subversion-r3200 installed in /opt/subversion-server
apache /opt/subversion-httpd
berkeley db 4.0.14 /opt/subversion-db
swig1.3.15 is in /usr/local
and a repository at /opt/svn/repo

the system (gentoo linux 1.3 gcc3.1) has a bdb-3.2.9
installed in /usr

everything with the subversion commandline tools seems to work fine.

i have my environment setup with all the subversion component lib and
bin directories on the front of LD_LIBRARY_PATH and PATH.

i wrote some python scripts to examine the repository, (should have
tested the default ones first...) and they and all the bundled scripts
fail with

(python2.2.1) python fstest.py /opt/svn/repo
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "fstest.py", line 59, in ?
    run(sys.argv[1])
File "fstest.py", line 14, in run
    fs.open_berkeley(fsob, db_path)
RuntimeError: bad database version: 3.2.9

i thought it might have been a python build problem so i installed a
new python in /opt/subversion-python (with env vars still in effect)
but the error persists.

i tried adding the /opt/subversion-db/lib to ld.so.conf and running
ldconfig, to no avail, and i am at wits end.

what am i doing wrong? any tips appreciated.

thanks

Re: retargeting python bindings

some additional notes on retargeting the python bindings

currently svn configure is sniffing for python2 executable followed by python,
which on my system leads to python2.2.

to rebuild the bindings for python2.1

- i edited configure.in to explictly search for python2.1
- rebuild swig --with-python=/path/python2.1
- rebuild subversion
- rebuild python swig svn bindings

it would be nice if subversion would take a configure switch for which python
to target.

after trying some other things thats what i did. i now have apache/apr cvs,
and subversion svn co installed into /usr/local, along with a system bdb
4.0.14 in /usr.

after a bit more waving of rabbit feet, rebuilding, and playing with ldd and
environment variables everything worked, i'm forced to conclude that my
issues were operator error.

You should upgrade to the latest version.

I'm using gentoo as well, but I've installed the (masked) db-4.0.14 ebuild,
which seems to work fine. Note you'll have to be careful doing 'emerge world',
since it will reinstall db-3.2.9. Just emerge db-4.0.14 again.
