[jira] Created: (TS-206) libev license

libev license
-------------

                 Key: TS-206
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TS-206
             Project: Traffic Server
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Leif Hedstrom
            Assignee: John Plevyak
             Fix For: 2.1.0

We need to include the AL2 license blurb in the libev files, and make sure that the NOTICE and LICENSE files are properly up-to-date with the BSD inclusions. I believe the general recommendation is to attach the AL2 license to the libev files, since the whole purpose of including this source is for our own modifications to the source, and those modifications should be covered by AL2.

please do _not_ just add the AL 2.0 license to these files.

RAT is wrong.

----------------------------------

i'm confused, so even if we change code here, we do not attach the AL2? Just leaving libev as is is still compatible with AL2, even with our changes?

That much said, if we don't need it, +1 from me to nuke it.

John Plevyak commented on TS-206:
---------------------------------

Since libev isn't required for any supported platforms, I don't think the extra work
of following the instructions in a README would be burdensome if someone
wants to use it for some reason.

John Plevyak commented on TS-206:
---------------------------------

We have native support for OSX, FreeBSD, Solaris, Linux and
the libev support is not optimal (it uses internal interfaces).

We might want to eliminate it until/if we decide to switch to
libev or libevent and a callback interface.

--------------------------------

Discussed with John, I think we can remove libev out the source repo and put in README-libev the procedure on how to get it to compile for ATS and any patches necessary to get it work on a certain platform.
