[jira] [Commented] (KAFKA-1632) No such method error on
KafkaStream.head

aarti gupta commented on KAFKA-1632:
------------------------------------
I also have a failed attempt of implementing non blocking version(or what I believe is non blocking), except iteration on KafkaStream.get(0) blocks, which it should??(according to me)
(since it uses java.util.concurrent.BlockingQueue)
@Override
public List<Task> receive(final boolean consumerConfirms) {
try {
LOG.info("Kafka consumer delegate listening on topic " + getTopicName());
kafkaStreams = messageStreams.get(getTopicName());
final List<Task> tasksReceived = Lists.newArrayList();
final Future<List<Task>> submit = Executors.newSingleThreadExecutor().submit(new Callable<List<Task>>() {
@Override
public List<Task> call() throws Exception {
for (final MessageAndMetadata<byte[], byte[]> messageAndMetadata : kafkaStreams.get(0)) {
final Task message = new Task() {
@Override
public byte[] getBytes() {
return messageAndMetadata.message();
}
};
LOG.info("Adding Task received to list of tasks ");
tasksReceived.add(message);
LOG.info("added to tasks received " + tasksReceived.size());
}
return tasksReceived;
}
});
LOG.info("outside for loop for stream ");
final List<Task> tasks = submit.get();
LOG.info("Returning list of tasks, of size "+ tasks.size());
return tasksReceived;
} catch (Exception e) {
LOG.warn("Error in consumer " + e.getMessage());
}
return null;
}

> \The following error is thrown, (when I call KafkaStream.head(), as shown in the code snippet below)
> WARN - java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: kafka.consumer.KafkaStream.head()Lkafka/message/MessageAndMetadata;
> My use case, is that I want to block on the receive() method, and when a message is published on the topic, I 'head' of the queue to the calling method, that processes it.
> I do not use partitioning and have a single stream.
