[jira] Created: (DERBY-2090) Broken link in Reference manual
Broken link in Reference manual
-------------------------------
Key: DERBY-2090
URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-2090
Project: Derby
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Documentation
Affects Versions: 10.2.1.6, 10.3.0.0
Environment: All
Reporter: Olav Sandstaa
Priority: Trivial
In the section "javax.sql: JDBC Extensions" in the Reference manual the following link:
http://java.sun.com/products/jdbc/jdbc20.stdext.javadoc/javax/sql/package-summary.html
is no longer valid.
It could possibly be replaced with:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/javax/sql/package-summary.html
or maybe even better just be removed.

Thanks very much, Olav.
I believe the best solution at this point is just to commit the fix you approved. If someone knows of a way to clarify the other part of the topic, another issue can be filed for it.

Olav Sandstaa commented on DERBY-2090:
--------------------------------------
I have looked at the HTML file and the change looks good. I agree that it is better to point to a web page that contains links to documentation for more than one version of Java SE than a page that only has the documentation for one version of Java SE. Thanks for fixing this, Kim.
Regarding the sentence referring to "three methods" I have no good answer to what it means or what it refers to. Hopefully someone else know what this is supposed to refer to.

Kim Haase updated DERBY-2090:
-----------------------------
Attachment: DERBY-2090.diff
DERBY-2090.zip
Fixed the broken link. I think I found a better URL: http://java.sun.com/javase/reference/api.jsp links to the API docs for various versions of Java SE. I also made the link external instead of local, so it opens in a separate window.
The zip file contains the new HTML file.
I was puzzled by a sentence further down in the file: "In addition, Derby provides three methods for XADataSource, DataSource, and ConnectionPoolDataSource." I can't think what three methods these might be, since Derby turns each of these interfaces into two (ClientXADataSource and EmbeddedXADataSource, etc.) and each of the six interfaces has from two to 11 methods. Is there any way to clarify this while we are fixing this file?
