   Right now I think the todo list is (minus more code quality review from others):
   
   - [ ] Figure out a testing strategy and add tests (ping @wesm for thoughts on this, see my comment above)
   - [x] Fix the `manylinux1` build (ping @xhochy for instructions/a PR here)
