According to an email on the log4j-user mailing list on 8/3/2007, EXCEPTION is a
reserved keyword in the Derby database engine and can't be used as a column name.

Fixed in commit 566490
I chose to rename the EXCEPTION column to THROWABLE. This issue may arise with
the TIMESTAMP column as well.
I thought about supporting fallback column names, appended with _COL (for
example, if the EXCEPTION column was not in the result set, look for the column
EXCEPTION_COL), but for now, it didn't seem necessary.
