xindice + lower jdk

Hello! I'm programing with webl and jsp, my problem it's that webl only run 
with jdk 1.2, with tomcat I haven't problem! but xindice only run with jdk 
1.3.
Somebody know other xml database that run with jdk 1.2, and it's free! I'm a 
student and i need it for the proyect in the university.
