[users@httpd] KeepAliveTimeout too small?

Hi List,

have a odd issue with apache when using external link-checker to follow
links
with http://validator.w3.org/checklink i want to check my page, depth is 1.
In terminal i watch incoming requests in access_log
all is fine, but sometimes the linkchecker shows 500er server error on some
files.
This 500er i can not find in access_log, the requested file is not visble in
log.
Dont know from whre the checker ist getting this 500er.
If i change in httpd.conf KeepAliveTimeout from 1 to 10 the checker is
"satisfied"
and all requested files get returncode 200 and are as 200er visible in log.
setting KeepAliveTimeoutfrom back to 1 and this error starts again...
apache is 2.2.8 on suse 8.2
Dont know how to explain this issue, changing KeepAliveTimeout should not
deny requests etc.
any ideas?
Thanks Andre
