How to build a DOM from SAX

I've created a class that implements XMLReader and generate SAX events 
to an internal ContentHandler.
The question is: how to create a DOM Document from this?

If the default DocumentBuilder builds the tree from SAX events generated 
from a File or InputStream, changing the source to be a custom XMLReader 
seems natural. But just looking at the javadocs I can't see how.
