folder of cocoon

Hello

i've installed cocoon 1.8.1, tomcat 3.2.1 and jdk1.3 on windows 2000.
i've put a test.xml and a test.xsl in <TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps/ROOT/ and the
same files in <TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps/cocoon/ ...
i used IE 5.00 and the second file is ok but not the first and i don't know
why ....?
following the java & xml book of Brett McLAUGHLIN, i could put any xml file
in <TOMCAT_HOME>/webapps/ROOT/ ???
