svn+ssh but svnserve not in path :-(

Hi,

I've just ran into a problem that I could not solve myself.

I've a repository on a networked SunOS-box, the only way to access is
is ssh + svnserve, but svnserve is not in $PATH.
I could not set ~/.ssh/environment.

Is there a way to supply the full path to svnserve?

thx

Arne

No, I'm afraid there isn't, short of modifying the source code.

(I looked into making that possible when I implemented the svn+ssh
stuff, but the hostname needs to go into the command vector before the
"svnserve" part, and there's no good way to combine
apr_tokenize_to_argv() with some kind of "%h" substitution.)

Actually, I speak too soon.

You could create a wrapper around ssh which converts the "svnserve" to a
full pathname. Ugly, but not as ugly as hacking the Subversion source
code.

Hello again!

Ive got an working solution:

On some of the BSD boxes there is ~/bin in the path.
all repository users now add an svnserv named shell script to
~/bin that just calls svnserve with full path over ssh on the SunOS
box.

little crazy - but works great ;-)

~/.ssh/environment has been deprecated in recent OpenSSH releases for
LD_PRELOAD-ish reasons, and you need 'PermitUserEnvironment yes' in
sshd_config to enable it.

I don't think so.

On a different note, I'm sure you have a perfectly valid reason why you
can login to a machine with ssh but can't edit the ~/.ssh/environment
file but to be honest I can't really see it. Could you explain _why_ you
can't edit the file?

Michael
