The managed-schema config file that is shipped with Ranger has auto field creation enabled, but by default the values are multi valued. Multi-valued values currently have some known limitations in Solr, example it doesn't support sorting.

So by default, we should create any new auto discovered fields a single-valued. And if someone needs multi-valued, then they should create or update the field manually.
