the allusive 'keep'
>From fop017's STATUS file:
"- fixed: handling of orphans, keep problem [Keiron Liddle]"
...is there any elaboration on this? I am still not having any luck with
widow/orphan protection...for instance, I can't keep figure headings on the
same page as the figure itself...I've tried it two ways:
<xsl:template match="img">
<!-- This is the heading -->
<fo:block keep-with-next.within-page="always">
Figure <xsl:number level="any"/>: <xsl:value-of select="@alt"/>
</fo:block>
<!-- This is the figure itself -->
<fo:block keep-with-previous.within-page="always">
<fo:external-graphic>
<xsl:attribute name="src">
<xsl:text>file:./graphics/</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="@src"/>
</xsl:attribute>
</fo:external-graphic>
</fo:block>
</xsl:template>
------------------------- I've also tried this ------------------------
<xsl:template match="img">
<!-- This is a block that contains the heading AND the figure itself -->
<fo:block keep-together.within-page="always">
Figure <xsl:number level="any"/>: <xsl:value-of select="@alt"/>
<fo:external-graphic>
<xsl:attribute name="src">
<xsl:text>file:./graphics/</xsl:text>
<xsl:value-of select="@src"/>
</xsl:attribute>
</fo:external-graphic>
</fo:block>
</xsl:template>
Perhaps I'm missing something here?
many thanks,
jb

Hi, Jeff
What you're missing, I believe, is that the keeps support we have in FOP is
very limited, and applies only to tables. I think fo:table-row
specifically...could be wrong.
We have it as a matter of some priority to get some structural improvements
worked out, and successful completion of that is what is leading to a
perceived lack of progress on some useful things. I think I can speak for
everyone involved when I say that we want to put wings on it. Also, many of
our committers went through a real busy spell the last month or more, and if
it hadn't been for a few remaining comitters and a bunch of developers
stepping in we really would have stalled out for a while. I think things
will pick up now...speaking for myself I see more time being available.
