try resetting all the settings to defaults by renaming your user profile. to
detect the profile, open 'tools - options - openoffice - paths'. the profile
is the '...\openoffice\4\user' folder where autocorrect, autotext, backups,
gallery and graphics reside.

Experience on the User Forum shows that resetting the User Profile, as indicated, cures a very high proportion of spellcheck problems.
