The goal of this jira is to implement the version 9 of the OffsetCommit API as described in KIP-848: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/KAFKA/KIP-848%3A+The+Next+Generation+of+the+Consumer+Rebalance+Protocol#KIP848:TheNextGenerationoftheConsumerRebalanceProtocol-OffsetCommitAPI.

The version 9 mainly adds the support for topic ids.
