Perchild MPM (Apache 2)

I know the perchild MPM is experimental and still being developed and all
that, but does anyone happen to know the status of it? (aka, how well does
it work right now, etc.)?

I've been waiting for this MPM (and nothing else) back since the first
Apache 2 beta -- it's perfect for what I need in a server I'd like to bring
up for free webhosting -- so I'd love to know about it?
