Re: Unable to start tomcat 4

Among other things, Tomcat 4 requires a Java2 (JDK 1.2 or later) platform.
It won't run on 1.1.8.

More details about what might be wrong can be found in the log files (for
you, they would be in /var/tomcat4/logs).
