Attachment Directory

It appears as if the attachment directory in the server-config file always contains an absolute path.  Where is the path obtained from?  We have deployed our app to an AIX box, and for some reason, after deploying our web services, the server-config file contains a 'windows-like' path ('c:\....\WEB-INF\attachments') which is only valid on our local machines.
