Thanks Christian for clarification.

Reverting to a +1 non-binding now. migration was successful on my side.

Features extension tracks the bundle wirings and stores them into the
data directory.
On a restart of karaf there wirings are then reloaded from disk. This
makes the wiring more stable.

As it is a fragment the resolved state is normal.

@Fabian, "Apache Karaf :: Features :: Extension" is a fragment attached to
system bundle (<Fragment-Host>system.bundle;
extension:=framework</Fragment-Host>).

+1 (non-binding)

Hey,
ok, so after a (surprisingly painful) migration of the log config we use i
am having logging again.

One more thing:
  1 │ Resolved │   1 │ 4.1.0       │ Apache Karaf :: Features :: Extension,
Hosts: 0

is this new? what does it do? Why is it only resolved?

Karaf 4.1.0 now uses log4j v2 so the config has changed.

No, I am using my current log config, which is probably the cause of that.

Posted by Jean-Baptiste Onofré <jb...@nanthrax.net>.
Hi Fabian,

what do you mean by "logging doesn't work" ?

On a fresh Karaf 4.1.0:
1. log:* commands work for me
2. I see data/log/karaf.log populated by default

Do you use the etc/org.ops4j.pax.logging.cfg provided by Karaf 4.1.0
(using log4j2) ?

Regards
JB

Re: [VOTE] Apache Karaf (Container) 4.1.0 release, RC#2

Hi,

currently -1 (non-binding)
I just started our container with 4.1.0 instead of 4.0.8 and logging no
longer works.
is there a migration of logging config necessary?

Hi

Can you check Jenkins ?

It seems your commit broke the build (not sure it's directly related).

Thanks

For the release, I would let the current 4.1.0 release as it is. I will actually close the vote later today.

I will do 4.1.1 in 2 weeks including those fixes (and others).

Hey,
just wanted to point out that I today found and fixed KARAF-4978, a native
memory leak in the Features Subsystem caused by not closing a
ZipInputStream.
Christian also fixed KARAF-4974 an ArrayIndexOutOfBounds Exception when
listing services.

I have the feeling that these two fixes might justify another attempt, but
I will of course leave this up to you :)

I found quite a few issues. Mainly related to pax-web and activemq
webconsole.

  * service:list does not work if a service has an empty list of
    ObjectClass properties.
I guess that this is not too common and there are workarounds.
    https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/KARAF-4974
  * Servlets are not exported by the whiteboard if they have the pax web
style as well as the new osgi whiteboard style
    https://ops4j1.jira.com/browse/PAXWEB-1060
  * Activemq webconsole does start correctly as it misses an import for
    javax.servlet.annotation.
I am not sure anymore if this is really an activemq error. It worked
by adding the import but I can not find a place where
the annotation is used. So maybe it is also an issue in pax web.
    https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMQ-6591
  * After the import is fixed for activemq webconsole I get another
    exception in the logs
    https://ops4j1.jira.com/browse/PAXWEB-1061
  * The webconsole start up but it seems the tag libs are missing
    https://ops4j1.jira.com/browse/PAXWEB-1062

I still propose to push the release but we will soon need a bugfix
release and we should warn about these issues.

Another general note is that as the older spring versions have been
removed now it might be necessary to add the spring-legacy repo.
feature:repo-add spring-legacy 4.1.0

I hope we can soon provide each version of spring separately from
servicemix then users can install exactly the spring features repo they
need.

And the problem with ActiveMQ conole: should it be fixed in ActiveMQ or is it a missing bundle or feature which should be additionally installed in K11x to fix this problem? Should I open and issue in ActiveMQ or Karaf?

+1 (non-binding)

I have tested some ActiveMQ and Camel features. The problem with commands after restart has been fixed in the new release candidate. Jdbc, jms and some other features look good too.

I have found only 2 problems (non blocker)

  * After installing ActiveMQ console I got following info on the console:

Problem accessing /activemqweb/. Reason: Not Found

    And following log entry:

    2017-02-01 21:56:03,788 | ERROR | pool-3-thread-1 | WebObserver | 179 - org.ops4j.pax.web.pax-web-extender-war - 6.0.2 | Error scanning web bundle org.apache.activemq.activemq-web-console [70]: javax.servlet.annotation.HandlesTypes not found by org.apache.activemq.activemq-web-console [70]
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.servlet.annotation.HandlesTypes not found by org.apache.activemq.activemq-web-console [70]
        at org.apache.felix.framework.BundleWiringImpl.findClassOrResourceByDelegation(BundleWiringImpl.java:1574) ~[?:?]

  * The shell is still not stable - autocompletion sometimes works not correct (additional spaces), sometimes the layout becomes chaotic

Good job!!!

Kindly regards

Krzysztof
