There was a link for some time for pico server - a lightweight Java HTTP
Sever. It was supposed to be based on Avalon. I think it never got off the
ground.

That's right http://java.apache.org/picoserver/ - but it's dead as a link now.

I don't think it was ever based on Avalon... just easily portable to it.
