0.7 release plan

Hi Devs,

I think we are in a good shape to wrap-up our work done during last few
months with 0.7 release. We mainly focus on gfac-core improvements and
following thing has been implemented.

1. Re-architecting gfac with whole new code.
2. Implementing EC2 support in gfac.
3. Implementing Unicore support in gfac.
4. Implementing cloud bursting in gfac.

But all 2-4 features are not fully support in the framework currently
because we are not supporting it from XBaya and Airavata API. Are we going
to finish this part and release or we are going to release only the
gfac re-architecture work.

Please give your thoughts and lets plan the next release.

Regards
Lahiru

If you can work against the trunk in smaller patches that will be greatly preferable.

Yes. I understand. Having a separate branch would be quite helpful.
Alternatively I can break the work into manageable, smaller patches rather
than submitting a single patch. Please let me know what you prefer.

Thanks,

Hi Danushka,

Thats good to hear. Is this related to the GSoC project [1] Milinda did last summer which is now committed to the trunk [2]?

If you are intended to contribute back features, it will be nice is you can request a branch and frequently submit patches to it. In the CTR (Commit Then Review) mode which Airavata follows, big commits are very tough to review. Smaller commits get better attention.

Cheers,
Suresh

Given that GFac architecture is a major change, I would vote to push foreword with the release with just this capability.

These are good capabilities, but I feel we need more time to enhance the API, XBaya and test before we release and advertise these as supported features. I think, focusing on a release with GFac changes will give us enough time to test and harden it.

I added the Amazon menu to Xbaya. I have to do some testing against it. I
will keep the list posted on the progress.

IMV we will be able to support EC2 job submissions through the UI as well
(I have to test this more.) So, I will make sure that we ship the full EC2
support for Airavata-0.7.

I think we should have support from the XBaya itself as well. That will be
a user requirement.
