Why is JMeter encoding my request parameters
Hi,
I'm using JMeter 2.3.2 on Win XP. I"m using the HTTP Proxy Server
non-config element to record a series of JSF web pages I'm visiting.
However, upon making a certain request, the controller is recording
URL-encoded request parameters (the input name, not the input value), like
"blsForm%3AfeatureDefAction" instead of "blsForm:featureDefAction". When I
play this series of actions back, for this request, the assertion is
failing.
Any ideas how to prevent JMeter from encoding request params?
Thanks, - Dave

As far as I can tell, browsers will encode such names and values. It
is up to the server to decode them.
JMeter records the traffic as it sees it; the names values are stored
in the Parameter section as is, and the "Encode" checkbox is
de-selected.
This should mean that the sampler will not try to encode the
parameters further when the test is run.
If this is not happening, please raise a Bugzilla issue and provide a
simple test case.

I created a Response assertion that is failing.
> What happens if you change the recorded plan and replace "%3A" with
":" - does it then work OK?
There are dozens of parameters submitted so I haven't tried this yet.
However, I'm noticing that the values are also getting encoded. For
example, I have a parameter
name=javax.faces.ViewState
value=rO0ABXVyABNbTGphdmEubGFuZy5PYmplY3Q7kM5YnxBzKWwCAAB4cAAAAAN0AAE1cHQADC9qc3AvQkxTLmpzcA%3D%3D
Notice that the value is getting encoded -- the last two characters are
supposed to be "=". Is there a way to turn off encoding without manual
intervention after the fact?

How do I figure this out. I set up my proxy server's target controller to
test plan > thread group and the requests are created there as I click
through various web pages.
Thanks for your ideas, - Dave

What assertion is failing? Or do you mean that the request is failing?

What happens if you change the recorded plan and replace "%3A" with
":" - does it then work OK?
I.e. is the problem with the Proxy Recorder or the sampler?
Which Http Sampler are you using?
