[news] NetBeans 8.2 & JDK 8 Update 141 bundle testing

Hello NetCAT enthusiasts,

first of all I would like to apologize for pulling you back in time
but while we are waiting for completion of the first NetBeans code
donation to Apache it is not that off-topic.

JDK team has prepared another security update of JDK 8 and we were
asked to verify that NetBeans 8.2 works smoothly with it. That's why we
have rebuilt installers of the NetBeans & JDK bundle and started to
sanity test both installation and basic features today.

The planned release date is July 18th and because we have only a
little time for the test it would be awesome if some NetCAT participants
could join us. Grab the right installers and check that these are signed
correctly and install the right binaries. For more information please
see this Wiki:

http://wiki.netbeans.org/NetBeans_82_JDK8u141_Bundle_GoNoGo

The areas which need coverage are: Maven, Versioning (Git/Hg/SVN),
NetBeans modules development support, Databases, GUI builder, JavaFX,
JavaEE (JSP/JSF/XSD/DTD/XML) editors and PHP.

If you want to participate, just add your name to the table and
download the installer for your operating system(s). If you find any
strange behavior, please bring it here first for further discussion and
report bug(s) after it's clarified.

Many thanks and happy testing!

Best regards,
Jirka & Hermien

Hi David,

yes, please add yourself to the table. And many thanks for your test and
update of the incorrect JDK version!

Hi All

Downloaded, installed and tested windows x64 version.
Gave it a good workout this morning with a couple of existing projects; concentrating on GUI builder and Database aspects. Also created a new project with JFrame form. No problems to reports.
Existing Hibernate projects work just fine against MS SQLServer database and PervasiveSQL (not officially supported) browsing and queries both OK.

Looking at the http://wiki.netbeans.org/NetBeans_82_JDK8u141_Bundle_GoNoGo page I got rather confused - the table columns referenced JDK8u131/32b and JDKu131/64b. I've taken liberty of updating these to show JDK8u141/32b and JDKu141/64b respectively.

Should I add my name to the page? OK good to go from me.

Regards, David

Windows 7 64 bits, NetBeans 8.2 with jdk8u141 64 bits:
I have completed all tests tagged "sanity" in Synergy for the Maven perimeter. Could not properly complete 10.5 and 10.6 but that's probably just my test environment.

No particular issue :-)

Hello folks,

the missing "Edit" tab is indeed a permission problem which I fixed
for everyone who faced it and expressed interest in helping us out:

    * Carl Mosca
    * Carlos Quintanilla
    * Dylan Smith
    * Gilberto Caetano de Andrade

If your download does not start it's most probably due to not
accepted license agreement. In such case please follow the Note below
the links. Go to JDK 8 Update 131 with NetBeans 8.2 bundle download
page, check the Accept License Agreement option there and return back to
the Wiki. It should now serve the installers fine.

Hope this helps.

Re: [news] NetBeans 8.2 & JDK 8 Update 141 bundle testing

Posted by Thilina Ranathunga <r....@gmail.com>.
Hello,

I have performed below mentioned actions on fresh installations of both
*windows* *10* *x64* and Linux (*Ubuntu* *16.4.1*) *x64* versions

1. Install downloaded binary on fresh installation of OS

2. Create new “Netbeans Platform Application”

3. Add New module to the application

4. Enable all installer types in “project properties -> Installer”

5. Enable pack200 compression in “properties -> Installer”

6. Perform “Package as -> Installers”

7. Install and run generated installers (performed on generated
Windows and Linux versions only)

Did not face any problem or anything unexpected while performing above
actions.

Will perform some more actions before uninstall this and will keep you
informed with the results.

Regards,

Thilina Ranathunga

Hello Carl Mosca,

Unfortunately I do not see the attachment you mentioned, I assume
attachments are automatically removed when posting to this mailing list.
will you please upload the image to somewhere else and post the link to it?

The steps I followed as follows,

* opened
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk-netbeans-jsp-142931.html
and selected "Accept License Agreement"
* then downloaded x64 binaries for both windows and Linux from wiki page
mentioned by Jiri here.
http://wiki.netbeans.org/NetBeans_82_JDK8u141_Bundle_GoNoGo

PS: I had both accept licence and wiki pages opened on separate tabs of
same chrome window.

Win 7, 64 bit.
It seems test 1.4 from the Maven Synergy test suite (Create NetBeans Module archetype) is failing. Nothing ran in the console, the project was created but tagged [unloadable].

I was able to edit the page and add myself, but I've been in NetCat for a

And BTW, the table has JDK8u131 in the title.
My understanding is that it should be JDK8u141 :-)

Ah, I see that the View Source tab is only visible if it doesn't think that
you are still logged in. Please double-check at the top of the right-hand
column that it still indicates you as logged in?

Ok, everything works as usual for me - I'm using it by the way!
Java EE 7 projects using Tomee 7.0.3, git repository using gitblit and
maven.
Even our little boys [1] Unpacking index and [2] Transferring Maven
Repository Index, have appeared as well.

You are not alone in experiencing this issue. I don't know how to resolve

The links were not working, but suddenly they both do (at least the ones
for windows).

Logged in or not I do not see the Edit, but I do see View Source link. If I
go there I can see and copy source of page, but cannot edit.

Hi Carl,

Find the second level heading "What to test", and look at the right hand
side of that same line. There should be a link with the text [edit], which
edits that section only.

The edit for the whole page is at the top, just above the article. The tabs
are: page, discussion, then edit.

OK, first (I think) dumb question: how do we add our names to the table? I
am logged in but I don't see any edit button or link (which I am guessing
is right in front of me). :)
