awful list archive

I've mailed dirkx@webweaving.org about this and got no reply...

The list archive is just awful. Its one page dating back to Nov 1999. I
didn't count the messages, but its a _lot_. Netscape reports over a Meg
download just for the message list.

Why do I care? Well occasionally I browse the list because my AxKit
product also contains an XSP processor, and I'm interested in any issues
with it. But its becoming a pain in the ass to wait for 1M to download
and render just to catch up on the last few messages.

Of course the main cocoon web pages aren't a huge amount better, at 172kB
or something for just the home page...

I'd like to see this sorted out - is there any hope?

sql null pointer

Posted by Mark Washeim <es...@canuck.com>.
Sigh, I'm slow, but I didn't think I was this slow:

java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 0
    at org.apache.xerces.dom.DocumentImpl.isXMLName(Compiled Code)
    at org.apache.xerces.dom.DocumentImpl.createAttribute(Compiled Code)
    at org.apache.xerces.dom.ElementImpl.setAttribute(Compiled Code)

is being thrown with an xsp page, as follows:

<xsp:page
  language="java"
  xmlns:sql="http://www.apache.org/1999/SQL"
  xmlns:xsp="http://www.apache.org/1999/XSP/Core"
  xmlns:request="http://www.apache.org/1999/XSP/Request"
>

<xsp:logic>
public String p ;
</xsp:logic>

  <page title="SQL Search Results">

<xsp:logic>
    p = "insert into TABLE ( FIELDS . . n ) values ('','', .. n )" ;
 </xsp:logic>
        <sql:execute-query>
                <sql:driver>oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver</sql:driver>
           <sql:dburl>jdbc:oracle:thin:</sql:dburl>
                <sql:username></sql:username>
                <sql:password></sql:password>
                <sql:doc-element>USER</sql:doc-element>
                <sql:tag-case>upper</sql:tag-case>
                <sql:query><xsp:expr>p</xsp:expr></sql:query>
        </sql:execute-query>
  </page>
</xsp:page>

I don't get it???? I'm assuming that it's something in the response from
oracle that is a value which can't be set to an attribute . . .

Thankfully every message ever sent to these lists has been archived already
by EZMLM. It's just a matter of viewing it. This *is* underway. Yes, we
could use it yesterday, but...

Check out netbeans.org -- that's Tigris. And you'll notice that browseable
mail archives are there. There are still some rough edges on Tigris
(NetBeans is a bigger workout than its gotten before I think) and the Collab
guys are working fast to address those issues. Soon, very soon I'll be
comfortable lobbying to move Apache to Tigris so that we can pick up all
these things. But for the time being I've been happy to let NetBeans show
the rough spots and not have had to live through those here on Apache.

well, this is nothing compared to the general piss-off between ASF
members about the status of Apache hardware and software.

Brian B. is the man around those things but he's busy with real-life
stuff... and we he tried to scale the process giving root to more
people, we got busted :(

So, just add your comments to the _HUGE_ todo list for locus and wait on
the line.... or propose an alternative suggestion for those things.

Matt, I'm very sorry for this... but this is not something I can fix
:(((( Expecially since Brian is waiting for Tigris to happen (and it's
more or less two years we are waiting for that damn thing to finish....)

Man, i've said before, if someone can get me an archived mbox of the
messages (say, the web-weaving guys), I'll be happy to set up an archive
at mail-archive.com. The search interface doesn't suck too bad and it's
free.

I'll will take a look at setting up a searchable mail archive for the
cocoon-dev list. It will take a little time, though.

+1

Ditto the FAQ. If these were sorted I think the FAQs asked on cocoon-users
would be reduced and "it's in the FAQ/list archive" responses easier
to swallow.

+1 on this. I can't even use it anymore (i'm usually working from home on
a 56K line). Actually all the XML related archives suck. The
mulberry-tech XSL search actually takes longer to return a result from a
query than it does to download a one meg archive document!!
Can't apache.org set up htDig or glimpse or something so we can query the
mailing lists?
