Having Problems with tomcat

Hi,
I installed tomcat yesterday. When I tried to build using the ant (via the
build.bat) as specified the app dev docs,
i get 

D:\tomcat\doc\appdev\sample>build
== was unexpected at this time.
D:\tomcat\doc\appdev\sample>

Any idea why this is happening.
Any help is appreciated.
