Make process fails

Hi

I would like to build version 1.4.2 but the make process fails with message:

/usr/lib64/gcc/x86_64-suse-linux/4.1.0/../../../../x86_64-suse-linux/bin/ld: /home/SEI-IT/lvasvary/SVN/subversion-1.4.0/neon/src/.libs/libneon.a(ne_request.o): relocation R_X86_64_32 against `a local symbol' can not be used when making a shared object; recompile with -fPIC
/home/SEI-IT/lvasvary/SVN/subversion-1.4.0/neon/src/.libs/libneon.a: could not read symbols: Bad value
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [subversion/libsvn_ra_dav/libsvn_ra_dav-1.la] Error 1

PLease help to overcome this.
