Good job tracking down the root cause for this, John.

I think your patch is a sensible way to get the tests to pass.

On a side note, if tests have certain preconditions to be able to behave as intended, it might be sensible to check for these at the start of the test. So, the test that has been failing could check that there are in fact 0 MBeans registered at the start of the test, and just throw an exception if there aren't, since this is obviously a precondition the way the test is written.
