@Geertjan: could you verify if the NetBeans icons don't actually have some
vectorial (SVG or whatever) variant somewhere?
Maybe Leos Tronicek can confirm.
It's surprising we only have the PNGs.
The current icons are not that old and I suspect the designers created
vectorial images and exported the 16x16 px and 32x32 variants from that.

I would like to jump in here, a dedicated UX team for NetBeans would be awesome. Dedicated discussions on some improvements and so on and discussions with others to present the ideas.
If we could build a new one, I would like to be part of it too.
New, modern splashscreens for example, new modern looking startpage inside netbeans, and so on.
