[jira] [Commented] (DERBY-7142) Contribution code through gihub?

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DERBY-7142?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17556928#comment-17556928 ]

Bryan Pendleton commented on DERBY-7142:
----------------------------------------

Hello Christoph, thank you for your interest in Derby!

The best way to communicate with the developers is via the derby-dev mailing list. I am not sure why it is not working for you, it is working fine for other subscribers, here are the active archives: [https://lists.apache.org/list.html?derby-dev@db.apache.org]

The active SCM repository for Derby is the Subversion repository, you can see it here: [https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/db/derby/]

The best guide for new contributors is this: [https://db.apache.org/derby/derby_comm.html#Contribute+Code+or+Documentation]

I agree that the Derby wiki can be hard to navigate. It was moved from one hosting platform to another one some years ago and the conversion was not as clean as we wish it had been. Contributions to improving the wiki are also very welcome!

But the first problem is that you need to figure out why you have been unable to subscribe to the derby-dev mailing list and why you are unable to use the mailing list.

> Hi derby-dev's,
>
> first of all sorry for askin more a question through ticket system by the derby mailing list seems to be down (I always get timeouts when sending messages)
> I'd like to contribute some code to derby and wonder if the github mirror is suitable for this purpose?
> according to the github ui it was updated last in 2019 but I see never releases at maven central e.g.:
> or do I need to use (but I can't see when it was last updated?):
> or is there maybe even a completely other place an documentation is just outdated? I tried the wiki and confluence pages but the mostly reference each other and I can't get a clear view how to get the latest code.
> Thanks in advance.
