Fwd: ASF Board Report - Initial Reminder for Sep 2012

I plan to submit the September 2012 Apache board report until 11th of
September. I already put something together [1]. Feel free to comment or
add other things which should me mentioned.

Apache Camel is a powerful open source integration framework based on known
Enterprise Integration Patterns.

Project Status
--------------
* There are no issues that require the board attention.
* The project is healthy, active and stays at a high level.

Community
---------
* PMC Composition has changed after Red Hat acquired FuseSource. The
current affiliations in the PMC stand at:
Red Hat (11), Talend (3), Savoir Technologies (2), Atos Worldline
(1), Independent (1), Progress Software (1).
* Apache Camel in the news:
 * Java aktuell - Das Magazin (German magazine) published an article
'Apache Camel Security - Payload Security' from Dominik Schadow in
06.2012

 * Java Magazin (German magazine) - published an article 'Apache Camel
in daily use - part II' from Christian Mueller in 09.2012
(http://it-republik.de/jaxenter/java-magazin-ausgaben/Platform-as-a-Service-000514.html)
* We celebrated our fifth birthday:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CAMEL/2012/07/20/Happy+5+years+birthday+Apache+Camel
* The community stays at a high level:
 * 503 subscribers to the users mailing list (+0 %)

* The community is active
 * Avg. 781 mails per month on the users mailing list in Jun 2011 -

Subject: ASF Board Report - Initial Reminder for Sep 2012
To: Christian Mueller <cm...@apache.org>

This email was sent by an automated system on behalf of the ASF Board.
It is an initial reminder to give you plenty of time to prepare the report.

The meeting is scheduled for Wed, 19 September 2012, 10:00:00 PST and the
deadline for
submitting your report is 1 full week prior to that (Wed, Sep 12th)!

According to board records, you are listed as the chair of at least one
committee that is due to submit a report this month. [1] [2]

Details on which project reports are due and how to submit a report
are enclosed below.

Please submit your report with sufficient time to allow the board members
to review and digest. Again, the very latest you should submit your report
is 1 full week (7days) prior to the board meeting (Wed, Sep 12th).

If you feel that an error has been made, please consult [1] and if there
is still an issue then contact the board directly.

As always, PMC chairs are welcome to attend the board meeting.

Thanks,
The ASF Board

Submitting your Report
----------------------

Full details about the process and schedule are in [1].

The report should be committed to the meeting agenda in the board directory
in the foundation repository, trying to keep a similar format to the others.
This can be found at:

  https://svn.apache.org/repos/private/foundation/board

Your report should also be sent in plain-text format to board@apache.org
with a Subject line that follows the below format:

            Subject: [REPORT] Project Name

Cutting and pasting directly from a Wiki is not acceptable due to formatting
issues. Line lengths should be limited to 77 characters.

Resolutions
-----------

There are several templates for use for various Board resolutions.
They can be found in [3] and you are encouraged to use them. It is
strongly recommended that if you have a resolution before the board,
you are encouraged to attend that board meeting.

ASF Board Reports
-----------------

Reports are due from you for the following committees:

         - Camel

Hi Christian,

As RedHat holds the majority of the Camel committers, would it be
interesting that we rebalance the board team ?

Charles

Not exclusively. We also report what's going on and what we plan to do.

Cool, I was not aware of this. I added it to the report

Thanks for remembering. I read the article but forgot to mention it. I
added a note to the report too.

Hey Christian,

some feedback:

1) why do you mention information about upcoming events (ApacheCon)? Isn't
this report about the past three months?

2) if you mention future talks, you should also add Camel talks at JavaOne
(which is as important as ApacheCon, isn't it?), for example I do a talk
there about "Systems Integration in the Cloud Era with Apache Camel".

3) I also published a German article at 'heise developer':
http://www.heise.de/developer/artikel/Freie-Integrations-Frameworks-auf-der-Java-Plattform-1666403.html
An English translation was also released by the publisher for 'h-online':
http://www.h-online.com/developer/features/Free-integration-frameworks-on-the-Java-platform-1672712.html

Thanks for all your valuable feedback. I update the report as follows:

Apache Camel is a powerful open source integration framework based on known
Enterprise Integration Patterns.

Project Status
--------------
* There are no issues that require the board attention.
* The project is healthy, active and stays at a high level.

Community
---------
* Apache Camel in the news:
 * "Java aktuell - Das Magazin" and "Java Magazin" published three
articles about Apache Camel
* We celebrated our fifth birthday:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CAMEL/2012/07/20/Happy+5+years+birthday+Apache+Camel
* We will have 4 talks at ApacheCon EU 2012
* The community stays at a high level
* The community is active
 * Avg. 781 mails per month on the users mailing list in Jun 2011 -
Aug 2012 (-10 %)
 * Avg. 239 mails per month on the dev mailing list in Jun 2011 - Aug
2012 (+43 %)
 * Avg. 275 committs per month in Jun 2011 - Aug 2012 (-11 %)
* No new committer in this reporting period (last one joined in March 2012)
 * We are watching a few good candidates which we probably add in the
next reporting period
* No new PMC members in this reporting period (last one joined in November 2011)
