For me it seems that Tapestry requires a namespace declaration on the <title> tag. But I have already the default namespace declaration on
the <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> tag.
P.S. with only <html xmlns:t="http://tapestry.apache.org/schema/tapestry_5_0_0.xsd"> it fails also. But it did work on Tapestry 5.0.18

I have found a solution for this "problem". I don't use maven to manage my libraries and before Tapestry 5.1 I did not include the stax2-api-3.0.1.jar and woodstox-core-asl-4.0.1.jar in my WEB-INF/lib folder. Starting with Tapestry 5.1 I HAVE to include them.
Perhaps the JBoss ships with faulty XML parser libraries, I don't know.

Paul's comment above helped solved this for me, I had on older version of wstx-asl pulled in via Solr (Thanks Paul!!). The exclusion did need the new groupId however.

Anyway, I am not sure that the reason is the missing declaration on the title tag, because I got it working again (don't know how), but did not change anything about the declarations.

We had the same issue with the "Parameter namespacePrefix was null" error after upgrading to T5.1.0.2.
It turned out that we had an old version of the woodstox library in the classpath. They appear to have changed the Maven group/artifact ids so Tapestry's dependency on a newer version didn't replace the older version.
The *OLD* library has a group id of "org.codehaus.woodstox" and an artifact id of "wstx-asl". If you find you have a library that pulls in this other library, you can exclude the dependency like this:

I had the same issue but the cause was not an older version of woodstox but JBoss 4.2.2 (Andrej was right).
The problem can be by adding the following system properties:
javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxInputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLOutputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxOutputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLEventFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxEventFactory
com.sun.xml.ws.api.streaming.XMLStreamReaderFactory.woodstox=true
com.sun.xml.ws.api.streaming.XMLStreamWriterFactory.woodstox=true
and by adding the following jars in lib folder of the JBoss server instace (not WEB-INF/lib where they are optional now):

stax2-api-3.0.1.jar

Anyway, I am not sure that the reason is the missing declaration on the title tag, because I got it working again (don't know how), but did not change anything about the declarations.

Resolution: Cannot Reproduce
I created standalone pages and couldn't see this behavior; Tapestry's built in test suite already uses the xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" namespace so this gets tested all the time. I'm not sure what it is that triggered your issue. Perhaps a complete page rather than a snippet?

I have found a solution for this "problem". I don't use maven to manage my libraries and before Tapestry 5.1 I did not include the stax2-api-3.0.1.jar and woodstox-core-asl-4.0.1.jar in my WEB-INF/lib folder. Starting with Tapestry 5.1 I HAVE to include them.
Perhaps the JBoss ships with faulty XML parser libraries, I don't know.

I had the same issue but the cause was not an older version of woodstox but JBoss 4.2.2 (Andrej was right).
The problem can be by adding the following system properties:
javax.xml.stream.XMLInputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxInputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLOutputFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxOutputFactory
javax.xml.stream.XMLEventFactory=com.ctc.wstx.stax.WstxEventFactory

Paul's comment above helped solved this for me, I had on older version of wstx-asl pulled in via Solr (Thanks Paul!!). The exclusion did need the new groupId however.

Resolution: Cannot Reproduce
I created standalone pages and couldn't see this behavior; Tapestry's built in test suite already uses the xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" namespace so this gets tested all the time. I'm not sure what it is that triggered your issue. Perhaps a complete page rather than a snippet?

We had the same issue with the "Parameter namespacePrefix was null" error after upgrading to T5.1.0.2.
It turned out that we had an old version of the woodstox library in the classpath. They appear to have changed the Maven group/artifact ids so Tapestry's dependency on a newer version didn't replace the older version.
The *OLD* library has a group id of "org.codehaus.woodstox" and an artifact id of "wstx-asl". If you find you have a library that pulls in this other library, you can exclude the dependency like this:

Anyway, I am not sure that the reason is the missing declaration on the title tag, because I got it working again (don't know how), but did not change anything about the declarations.
