http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=40645

           Summary: factory "parameter" in ResourceParams block
           Product: Tomcat 5
           Version: 5.0.28
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: other
            Status: NEW
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P3
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: sfisque@chrome.com

enhancement request:

the manner of configuring a Resource has a questionable mechanism, where in
addition to the attributes of the Bean being instantiated, we have to supply a
non-bean parameter for the Factory. e.g.

	<parameter>
		<name>factory</name>
		<value>org.apache.naming.factory.BeanFactory</value>
	</parameter>

it would be more intuitive if the "factory" was an attribute of the
ResourceParams tag and not a parameter, since it is outside of the scope of the
"bean" being instantiated and within the scope of the Factory mechanism provided
by Tomcat.

e.g.

instead of:

	<ResourceParams name="Mailer/Config">
		<parameter>
			<name>factory</name>
			<value>org.apache.naming.factory.BeanFactory</value>
		</parameter>
		...
	</ResourceParams>

we could have

	<ResourceParams name="Mailer/Config"
factory="org.apache.naming.factory.BeanFactory">

		...

	</ResourceParams>

cheers.

Thanks for suggesting this ;)  It's a nice-to-have enhancement, but I don't see
practical value in it. I do see practical headaches for the many many Tomcat
users who will have invalid configuration files if we change this, so I'm
marking this as WONTFIX.
