Hi!

I had problems with the subscribtion of the mailing list. Sorry if this
message is now a cross-posting.

Thanks for the release of the Flex SDK 4.16.0

On the same day of the Flex SDK release, Adobe has released AIR SDK 25.0. It
would be nice if somone will update the installer to support the release
version of AIR SDK 25.

I just compiled Windows Source : apache-flex-sdk-installer-3.2.0-src.zip
<http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.lua/flex/installer/3.2/apache-flex-sdk-installer-3.2.0-src.zip>
with 64 bit AIR 25 SDK & Compiler Beta – Captive apps only (Windows)
<http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/air.html>

It seems that the 32-bit version of AIR is not be able to allocate enough
memory for the much larger AIR 25 SDK. 64-bit apps can use more memory,
though, so that's why it works in the beta 64-bit AIR runtime for Windows.

Even today official installer does not work...

For me solution was pol2095's answer here:
https://forum.starling-framework.org/topic/feathers-sdk-installer-error-1000-air-25

"I have compiled Windows Source : apache-flex-sdk-installer-3.2.0-src.zip

You can download a Flex installer that install Apache Flex with Air 25 on

Re: FlexSDK 4.16.0 installer errors

Posted by Alex Harui <ah...@adobe.com.INVALID>.
There are several workarounds mentioned upthread.

To use Ant, get the binary package from [1].
Create a new folder, and unpack the binary package into that folder.
Run:
  ant -f installer.xml -Dair.sdk.version=26 -Dflash.sdk.version=26

The reason we haven't changed the installer is because we keep hoping that
Adobe will release a way to build a 64-bit version of the Installer. But
I think I just saw that even on Mac, the most recent AIR SDK is too big so
we need to re-code the way we handle the big files. Volunteers are
welcome to help out.

Thanks,
-Alex

Simple question:

I cannot install air 26, getting the same error (1000, 1009) errors.

What is the solution? Are there detailed instructions for dummies to show
how to get around the error? Interesting this has been an issue since March
and still not corrected.

Did you not get a

error when you ran the installer?

Thanks

Hmm. I don't think there is a prompt for the playerglobal version, just a
prompt to accept the licensing terms.

I think you actually installed playerglobal version 23. I forgot to
mention that to get playerglobal version 25 you have to use:

  ant -f installer.xml -Dflash.sdk.version=25.0 -Dair.sdk.version=25.0

That seems to have done the trick - thanks!

Quick question, should my /frameworks/libs/player directory not have a
'25.0' folder in it following the ant install (given I prompted for version
25 and said yes to downloading the playerglobal.swc file?). I only have a
23.0 file in my /frameworks/libs/player directory following the script
successfully completing.... The console output even says it was grabbing
23.0 not 25.0 - is this just the installer.xml file that needs updating?

Re: FlexSDK 4.16.0 installer errors

Posted by Lydecker <za...@zizunetwork.co.uk>.
Hi Alex,

Thanks for the advice - still getting an error with windows - seems to be
with OSFM download - which is weird as the mirror it fails to grab the file
from I can get when browsing to the URL directly. Here is the console output
- any pointers?

Thanks

Re: FlexSDK 4.16.0 installer errors

Posted by Alex Harui <ah...@adobe.com>.
Hi,

I guess we never tested the Ant install on Windows. The console output
showed that there is a bug in the script.
I guess the simplest fix is to edit installer.xml and remove this line
(which is line 354 for me):

        <antcall target="air-setup-mac" />

Thanks,

-Alex

Well, technically, you don't need those, but I think Flash Builder might
think the folder isn't a Flex SDK if you don't have those files. Not sure
if other IDEs are expecting those files as well.

The problem is that we either need to rewrite the MD5 buffering, or switch
to a 64-bit Windows EXE, but there is no way to generate an "installer for
the installer" in 64-bit Windows. Other creative ideas are welcome, as
are volunteers to make the required changes.

I agree we need to do something to get the Installer to work, but I don't
think we've achieved consensus on what to do.

Thanks,
-Alex

Hi All,

Attempting ant install like others. Probs silly question but if I'm only
targeting captive runtime, do I need to follow steps #4 and #5 in the readme
and install the Flash Player content debugger and playerglobal.swc or can I
safely ignore those?

Alternatively, is the AIR installer going to be back online soon? Now that
it's gone I'm reminded of how helpful it was.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Daniel

On Windows, the script shouldn't go to line 453. Please post the entire
console output. What version of Windows are you using?

Thanks,

Re: FlexSDK 4.16.0 installer errors

Posted by Lydecker <za...@zizunetwork.co.uk>.
Hi Alex,

Quick question. If I use ant to do the install on Windows - it fails on
line 453 in installer.xml ( <exec executable="rsync" dir="${FLEX_HOME}"> )
due to me not having rsync.exe on Windows. How do I go about getting rsync
on Windows?

Thanks

Re: FlexSDK 4.16.0 installer errors

This is a known issue. AIR 25 is so big, it blows up the memory of the
installer.

You can use Ant to do the install. Download the binary, unzip it and run:
    ant -f installer.xml

Hi all

Having same issue here, memory does not seem to be a problem I have 36 GM
ram and still get the following failed install

I too, managed to install on OSX (Seira) previously without issue.

Open to any ideas on workaround for windows...

Here is the log file:

Installer version 3.2.0 (windows)

Fetched the SDK download mirror URL from the CGI.
SDK version Apache Flex SDK 4.16.0

Downloading Apache Flex SDK from:
http://apache.mirror.amaze.com.au/flex/4.16.0/binaries/apache-flex-sdk-4.16.0-bin.zip
Verifying Apache Flex SDK MD5 Signature
The Apache Flex SDK MD5 Signature of the downloaded files matches the
reference. The file is valid.
Unzipping: D:\FlexSDK_4.16_AIR_25\temp\apache-flex-sdk-4.16.0-bin.zip
Finished unzipping:
D:\FlexSDK_4.16_AIR_25\temp\apache-flex-sdk-4.16.0-bin.zip

I've been having zero luck with Windows all day.

I've tried 7 different machines, which have varied from having 6Gb RAM to
32Gb! All of them have generated the #1000 error after validating AIR25.0

Hoping this isn't going to put off newcomers to Flex...

I tried on OSX and it downloaded fine, but my understanding is the download
on OSX can't be copied to Windows as it strips the .exes out etc?

Sad face.

Yes, I notice that from Flex 4.15 + AIR 23 to Flex 4.16 + AIR 25, it's almost
the double size.
For me there is no problem with I have a 480 GB SSD.

Hi,

At the time the error #1000 occurs I have 10 GB free memory. Maybe the
problem is that the installer runs as 32 bit process.

As mentioned in another thread AIR 25 zip is significantly larger in size
and the the installer is running out of memory when trying to unzip it.

You might want to try closing a few open programs to free up some memory and
trying again.

Thanks,

Hi,

Not sure what we can do about it but I’m seeing a higher than usual error rates with the installer in google analytics, especially on windows

About 10% of all windows downloads are getting that 1000 error mention in the other thread , but we’re seeing a total error rate of about 60% for windows. On mac the total error rate is about 20%. (10-20% in the norm). For FlexJS the error rate is around 70% which is also a little higher than usual (it's normally in the 40-60% mark).

The windows errors more common that the 1000 one are the unknown "info=Error” error and the 2032 error, which from memory is SSL related.

We're approaching 250 successful downloads which is some good news.

Thanks
Justin

Hi, I tried it on AIR 25 my Windows machine and it also reported the same
error. We'll see what kind of solution we can come up with for the
Installer, but I think you should be able to use Ant. Get the binary
package from [1], unpack it into a folder and run

    ant -f installer.xml

I try to unzip the AdobeAIRSDK.zip

(size : 343 Mo) on Windows with a custom air app and air can not extract it
totally, but I try with the 64 bit AIR 25 SDK Beta and extract it totally.

So 380MB more stuff. Can't look into it right now. Hopefully somebody
else can.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Apache Flex 4.16.0 released

Posted by Josh Tynjala <jo...@gmail.com>.
On a related note, the AIR SDK with the ASC 2.0 compiler is nearly twice as
big unzipped in version 25 than it was in 24. 928 MB versus 589 MB. Since
people are getting these out of memory errors, I suspect that the version
without the compiler that we use with the Flex SDK is probably
significantly larger too (I don't have the time to check right now, but
maybe someone else can?).

I wonder why the AIR SDK suddenly got so much larger?

I also got the same message. Tried it 4 times without success.

Upon selecting Air 24 instead of Air 25, it worked correctly.

Hi,

Error #1000 is "out of memory". I see this on occasion, but usually it works after a couple of attempts. Are you consistently getting this?

I believe the installer script just needs to be updated to support that.

As it says the MD5 hash fails to match with what was downloaded. I’d just try again.

the 3rd mirror worked fine.

file apache-flex-sdk-4.16.0-bin.zip to folder flex\4.16.0\binaries in the
specified cache folder, try to install again and it worked fine.

Please try clearing your browser caches. I've seen that help on occasion.
Also check your log and see if it is choosing a mirror that is reasonably
close to you. If it picks a bad mirror the odds of a bad download is
higher.

You can try downloading the binary artifact [1], expanding it and using
Apache Ant to run the install script.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Apache Flex 4.16.0 released

Posted by Alex Harui <ah...@adobe.com>.
An update: I was able to generate a 64-bit bundle, but not an installer
EXE that installs a 64-bit app. It seems to generate a 32-bit app.

Has anyone seen any info on creating an installer EXE for a 64-bit app?
I'll ask internally at Adobe as well.

Thanks,
-Alex

I haven't tried clear(). I'm trying to see if 64-bit will work because
then I think we can just deploy a new binary instead of having to go
through an entire release process.

I spent some time this afternoon and could not get the AIR 25 SDK Beta
with 64-bit support to actually generate a 64-bit exe. Has anyone seen
any documentation on the process?

Thanks,
-Alex

I wonder if it would help to call clear() on the URLLoader's ByteArray in
the Get AntOnAIR task after we save it to a file. While it's supposed to be
GCed eventually, clearing the memory immediately is probably a good idea
with these large files. I've had succuss doing something similar in cases
where BitmapData used too much cumulative memory before it could be GCed.

Do any of the Windows platforms we support not handle 64-bit apps?
Windows Server 2008 for example?

Otherwise, it seems like we should rebuild the Windows Installer on a
64-bit AIR version and replace the 32-bit one that we've deployed?

Thoughts?
