too many processes

Hi,

apologies if this ahs been discussed before.
I've just installed tomcat-4.0 on redhat7.1 linux
when I startup tomcat it creates 22 'java' processes which slow my machine
down enough for me to notice.
does anyone know how to fix this?

Nothing to fix: they're threads, not processes.
