JIRA JDO-47

Hi Michelle,

JIRA JDO-47 complains that 4 lifecycle tests need schema/metadata. This 
has been fixed by JIRA JDO-13. However, 3 of those tests throw an 
exception because of non-transactional read requests. I can fix this 
easily. What do you think?
