One possible approach would be to use Apache Drill, which provides SQL support on top of Hadoop. The roadmap would be:

* Finish some implementations of {{org.apache.sis.storage.DataStore}} abstract class. As of today, we only have a very partial NetCDF implementation.
* Create a Drill data store implementation which wrap an arbitrary {{org.apache.sis.storage.DataStore}} instance.
