HWPF -- bullet functionality for Word docs

Does functionality exist for reading/adding bullets to Word docs?  I am trying 
to use POI-HWPF to create a Word doc as creating an RTF file does not give me 
the capability of adding bullets.

I am currently at the point where I can read in a Word doc and write it out to 
a file.  The bullets are lost in the process.  Here is the code:

ByteArrayOutputStream out = new HWPFOutputStream();
HWPFDocument doc = new HWPFDocument (new FileInputStream 
("C:\\word\\sampleIn.doc"));
doc.write(out);
out.close();
