https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/

So, the structure of the https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/ directory is
odd:

 platforms/ <https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/platforms/>
 2015-01-10 00:11 -
 plugins/ <https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/plugins/>
2014-12-30 05:04 -
 tools/ <https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/tools/>
2015-01-10 00:09 -
 KEYS <https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/KEYS>
2014-12-22 19:17 41K
 cordova-2.9.1-src.zip
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/cordova-2.9.1-src.zip> 2013-11-05
18:58 13M
 cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.asc
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.asc> 2013-11-05
19:42 535
 cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.md5
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.md5> 2013-11-05
19:42 72
 cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.sha
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/cordova-2.9.1-src.zip.sha> 2013-11-05
19:42 213

The first thing a user sees when they manage to figure out how to get to
this directory from
http://cordova.apache.org/#download

Is 2.9.1-src.stuff

I'm not sure why. The 2.9.1-src stuff appears in the archive area too…

Can someone explain why we shouldn't delete those 4 files from this
directory?

Also, would anyone cry if there was a README or README.md in the
directory? Or something… ?

Lastly, could we please change:

You can find our release zips with corresponding OpenPGPkeys, MD5 and SHA
files on the Apache Cordova dist page
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/>.

To include a download icon before the link?

The style we use for this text / its links is so bad, that I can't find
the link that's actually important.

— it's *EASIER* for me to find "the archive
<http://archive.apache.org/dist/cordova/>" (because the sentence is
shorter)
— it's easiest for me to find "Our artwork
<http://cordova.apache.org/artwork.html>" (about which I can assure you
that 99% of our visitors couldn't care for less)

Also - a README sounds like a wonderful idea.

dist/ is meant to have only the latest release of each component on it. We
should delete the 2.9.x things. I'll commit that now. They will still be
available on Apache's archives page.

I'd say we clean that section up and at least include "npm install -g
cordova"

I think this is the "official" distribution. Not sure if Apache recognized npm as the official distribution and may be does not guarantee the integrity of the package on npm ?

Are we required by apache to have this thing?

Because, I'd rather have something that says "run `npm install cordova`"
than the rather notable download thing that takes me to a useless /
confusing section — this is from the main http://cordova.apache.org/ page:

DOWNLOAD Cordova version 4.0.0 <http://cordova.apache.org/#download>

Clicking the download button-link-thing takes you to:

Download & Archives
It is recommended that the cordova CLI be installed from npm rather than
downloading this .zip version.

^ note that there is no explanation here about how to use npm to install
cordova (or how to get npm)

For more information on installing the npm version see the Command-Line
Interface
<http://cordova.apache.org/docs/en/4.0.0//guide_cli_index.md.html#The%20Com
mand-Line%20Interface> section of the documentation.

^ well, there's this, but it's TL;DR

You can find our release zips with corresponding OpenPGPkeys, MD5 and SHA
files on the Apache Cordova dist page
<https://www.apache.org/dist/cordova/>.
Our artwork <http://cordova.apache.org/artwork.html> is also available.
Older versions can be downloaded from the archive
<http://archive.apache.org/dist/cordova/>.

This entire section is really poorly organized. :(

Installing through dist isn't our recommended way to install Cordova. If
rather have people have to read the blog than just press a big download
button without reading.

Feel free to remove 2.9.1 stuff.
