   Sorry, this has mostly slipped off my queue - I will try to get back to you soon. I think in the short term we just need to do the dispatching in the kernel itself. I'm not sure if we have enough functions that need to do dispatching like this to warrant a more complex dispatching mechanism built into the functions framework, it would clean up a few functions but being able to dispatch on options seems potentially complicated
