atul-astronomer opened a new issue, #61486:
URL: https://github.com/apache/airflow/issues/61486

   ### Apache Airflow version

   ### How to reproduce

   1. Run a dag which generates an XCom on Airflow main branch.
   2. Navigate to the XCom page.
   3. Edit the XCom, on first attempt, notice that the XCom value is visible.
   4. Once updated, try to edit the same XCom again and notice that the value is not populating again.

   Below dag can be used to repro:
   ```python
   import datetime
   from airflow.providers.standard.operators.bash import BashOperator
   from airflow import DAG
   dag = DAG(
   'test_api_dag',
   start_date=datetime.datetime(2025, 8,25),
   schedule='@daily',
   is_paused_upon_creation=False,
   catchup=False,
   )
   hello_task = BashOperator(
   task_id="hello",
   bash_command="echo hello",
   dag=dag
   )
   hello_task
   ```

   Just tried on main, and that seems related to the UI. (backend successfully returns the correct payload, and list is updated accordingly, might be the modal failing to refresh with the correct state)

   Might be related to https://github.com/apache/airflow/issues/59032 due to the fact the xcom patch API would be called for "edit" functionality.

   @vatsrahul1001 - Thanks for the note,I’ve already completed most of the work before noticing the assignment discussion. Please let me know how you’d prefer me to proceed?

   I tested this locally using Breeze and verified PATCH returns full updated object.

   One thing I’m curious about:
   Does this maintain backward compatibility for clients expecting partial response?
   Happy to help test additional cases if needed.

   @Arbaaz123676 We are unassigning you from this issue as part of our updated [assignment policy](https://github.com/apache/airflow/blob/main/contributing-docs/04_how_to_contribute.rst#contribute-code-changes).

   This is not meant to discourage your contribution — quite the opposite! You are still very welcome to work on this issue and submit a PR for it. Simply comment that you are working on it and open a PR when ready.

   We found that formal assignments were not working well, as they often prevented others from contributing when the assignee was not actively working on the issue.

   @Arunodoy18, Thanks for testing.
   Yes, this remains backward compatible. The endpoint already returns the full updated XCom, and no existing fields or behavior were changed.
